Q. How can I make sure I’m buying a door that is the right size and model?
We have product experts available by phone to help you make the right decision about the door model and accessories. We also will have a Certified Installer visit your jobsite to inspect the mounting conditions and measure the opening. The door(s) will not be ordered until we have verified everything is correct.

Q. How do I get the garage door installed? It seems like a big task.
You are right. Garage doors should be installed by trained professionals. Installation services are provided by Amarr and their network of Certified Installers. To ensure your satisfaction and safety, we require that doors sold on Costco.com be installed by Amarr.

Q. How do I purchase a garage door online?

1. Select the style and model on the website and proceed with the questions under “Get a quote”. If you have any questions call 877-799-2737.
2. Click the “Proceed with Order” button.
3. Complete the information requested and click “Submit”.
4. You will be contacted by Amarr to verify all information is accurate and to obtain a method of payment. You will not be charged until the door(s) are shipped and installed.
5. You will be given a preliminary estimate of the garage door and installation charges for the door(s) and opener(s) you are purchasing.
6. Amarr will assign a Certified Installer to conduct a “site inspection” to verify measurements and mounting conditions. If there are additional costs, you will be asked to approve these before the project continues. You are not required to continue with the project if you are not comfortable with the installation charges.
7. Once the installation is complete, you will be asked to sign a Certificate of Completion.

Q. Can I obtain models or styles of Amarr garage doors other than those shown on Costco.com?
Yes, many Costco warehouses have Special Order Garage Door Kiosks where additional models are available. If you require assistance in locating a warehouse that features garage doors, please call 877-471-0444.

Q. Can I purchase a door to be shipped to my home for installation by me or someone I hire?
No, this program requires that the door(s) be installed by an Amarr Certified Garage Door Installer.

Q. Can I purchase a garage door opener only at Costco.com?
Garage door openers are offered in conjunction with garage doors. Please refer to the Garage Door Opener page under the main menu. In addition, most Costco locations have garage door openers in stock.

Q. What if I live more than 25 miles away from a participating retail location?
An additional charge may apply if you live outside of a 25 mile radius from the nearest Costco location. Please call Amarr for more information at 877-799-2737.

Q. Is 25 gauge steel thicker than 26 gauge steel?
Yes. When comparing the strength of steel, the lower the gauge number, the thicker (and stronger) the steel is.

Q. Why should I choose an insulated door if my garage is non-insulated?
A garage door opening is a very large hole in your garage. Insulated doors will help to reduce the amount of energy loss from your garage, thus keeping it more comfortable for you. This is important for a number of reasons:

1. If your garage is attached to your home, the garage can help reduce energy loss from exterior walls of the house
2. If you use your garage as a workshop, your comfort will be a top priority
3. If your garage is below another room in your home, energy loss can occur through the ceiling of the garage into the floor of the room above. An insulated door will keep temperatures in the garage fairly stable to reduce the temperature fluctuation in the room;
4. An insulated door is generally quieter and has a more attractive interior than a non-insulated door.

Q. What are the benefits of a steel door over a one-piece door made of wood?
Steel garage doors are low-maintenance. Typically a one-piece wood garage door (that swings up) needs to be painted as frequently as the wood trim on your home due to weathering. Additionally, Amarr steel doors have longer warranties than one-piece wood garage doors. Steel garage doors can be insulated, making them far more energy efficient than the one-piece wood garage doors. Amarr steel doors are pre-painted and most are available in your choice of three colors. One-piece wood doors are unfinished or primed, both of which need to be finished upon installation. In addition, the operation of a one piece door requires a gap around the perimeter for it to operate. A new sectional door fits tighter to the opening with the included weather seal around the perimeter, giving a much better seal against the elements.

Q. Do I have to dispose of my old door if I have it replaced?
The installer will haul your old door away after the new door is installed. This is included in your installation. If you choose to keep your old door, you must notify us of this information.

Q. When I replace my existing door, can I keep my old track?
Amarr recommends replacing your track when you replace your door because each brand of garage door is designed to work with a specific type of track. In addition, replacing your track is an inexpensive way to insure that your entire garage door system is as safe as possible. By replacing your track you also ensure that your door warranty will apply, in the event that you have a problem.

Q. I have a one-piece door now. Can I replace it with a sectional door?
Yes. We can install a sectional door for you by installing track and springs to accommodate a sectional door. Depending on the construction of your garage, other modifications might be necessary.

Q. I’d like to purchase an Amarr Steel Garage Door, but need a color other than those you offer. Can I paint the door once it’s installed?
Yes. All steel doors provided by Amarr are prepainted with a tough topcoat that is perfectly suited for painting after installation if another color is desired. To repaint, use a high-quality latex exterior house paint.

Q. My garage has very little space (headroom) above the door. What is the minimum headroom required to operate a sectional door?
Standard headroom applications require 12” to 18” of space between the bottom of the opening header and the unobstructed ceiling. However, Amarr specializes in custom-built applications. A variety of special track options are available, and make it possible for many unusual garages to be fitted with doors. By using low-headroom track, it is possible to install a door in an area that has as little as 4 1/2” of headroom.

Q. Do I need a lock on my garage door?
If an electric garage door opener has been installed on your door, it may not be necessary to have a lock. Newer electric openers function as the lock, making it improbable that an intruder would be able to lift your door from the outside. If you have an older opener, check to see if your door can be lifted from the outside. If you intend to operate your door manually, a lock is recommended.
