Use this handy Measuring Guide to measure your Garage Door.

This Garage Door Measuring Guide will help you measure the garage door size that you will need. Costco.com offers single, double and custom door sizes. The single door sizes offered (width x height) are 8’x7’, 9’x7’, 8’x8’ and 9’x8’. The double door sizes offered are 16’x7’, 18’x7’, 16’x 8’ and 18’x 8’. Measuring for the Garage Door  
 
Step 1: Measure the width of the opening at the widest point. This is the distance between the right and left sides of the finished opening. The inside of the garage door should be framed with 2” x 6” wood jambs. Opening width:
Step 2: Measure the height of the opening at the highest point. This is the distance between the floor and the top of the finished opening. Look for general irregularities; concrete out of level. Opening height:
Step 3: Measure the width of the areas beside the openings. 3-3/4” is required on each side for installation of the vertical track. If this is a 2-door installation, center post needs to be a min. of 8” wide. Sideroom:
Step 4: Measure the area between the top of the door opening to the ceiling. Amarr doors require 12” headroom for installation and an additional 3” for an opener. If measurements are below these requirements, Low Headroom option Headroom:
Step 5: Measure the distance from the opening to the rear of the garage or nearest obstruction (min. door height plus 18”.) is required. Backroom:
 

Additional items to observe and note below:

  1. Verify electrical outlet for door opener use.
  2. Note any lights or stairs in the way.
  3. Verify all wood jambs are in good condition, header is stable.
  4. Verify the level of the floor. Was the pervious door a custom fit?
  5. Note any pipes, ductwork, etc. above the door that might obstruct operation of the door.
